TAFT COMMENDS EMPLOYEES FOR CHARITABLE GIVING
Combined Charitable Campaign raises more than $5.1 million for Ohio charities

COLUMBUS (December 6, 2006) - Governor Bob Taft today praised state employees for their generosity with the Ohio Statewide Combined Charitable Campaign (CCC). Through one-time donations and payroll deductions, employees pledged more than $5.1 million toward the 2006 campaign, which benefits charities.

"Not only are state employees dedicated to serving the public through their jobs, but they have also shown tremendous generosity in their charitable giving," said Taft. "These donations will make a tremendous difference in the lives of thousands of people."

The Governor thanked all the volunteers who helped coordinate the campaign a luncheon at Villa Milano Restaurant in Columbus. Joining the Governor for the announcement were Ohio Department of Administrative Services Director Carol Nolan Drake, and Environmental Protection Agency employee Kelvin Jones, who represented the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association.

The goal for this year was to raise $4.5 million. More than 20,400 employees participated, representing almost 100 agencies, departments, boards and commissions.

The governor also praised the Statewide Steering Committee that oversees the program for its efficient management and promotion of the campaign. The administrative costs for the campaign are only 3.6 percent of total donations.

The CCC is state government's primary charitable fundraising drive. Through it, state employees have the opportunity to give to 1,635 charitable organizations through one-time donations and payroll deductions. The 2006 CCC campaign time period was September 6 through October 18.
