
TAFT ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS
COLUMBUS (December 22, 2006) - Governor Bob Taft today announced appointments to the State Auctioneer's Commission; Development Financing Advisory Council; State Board of Education; Environmental Education Council; Great Lakes Protection Fund Board; Manufactured Homes Commission; Motor Vehicle Dealers Board; Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission; Public Schools Health Care Advisory Committee; Reclamation Commission; Governor's Residence Advisory Commission; Savings and Loan Associations and Savings Banks Board; Self-Insuring Employers Evaluation Board; and the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council.
The State Auctioneer's Commission shall serve in an advisory capacity to the Department of Agriculture on the area of auctioneer licensure. This includes the qualifications and examination for licensure and the issuance and revocation of licenses. Members are compensated for their expenses only.
Michael Baker, from Greenville, was appointed to the State Auctioneer's Commission for a term ending October 9, 2009, replacing Douglas Smith, whose term expired. Mr. Baker is the Co-Owner and President of Midwest Auctioneers & Realty, Inc.
Gary Cain, from East Springfield, was appointed to the State Auctioneer's Commission for a term ending October 9, 2009, replacing Richard Troup, whose term expired. Mr. Cain is the Founder and Owner of Gary W. Cain, Realtors/Auctioneers.
The Development Financing Advisory Council approves all low interest, long term, fixed asset loans for companies that want to expand or relocate in Ohio. Members are compensated $9.15 per hour.
Jennifer Simon, from Logan, was reappointed to the Development Financing Advisory Council for a term ending December 31, 2013. Ms. Simon has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Public Administration degree from Ohio University. Ms. Simon is the CEO & President of the Economic Development Council of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce.
David O. Smith, from Cincinnati, was reappointed to the Development Financing Advisory Council for a term ending December 31, 2013. Mr. Smith is a Manager in Economic Development with the Cinergy Corporation.
Frank A. Guglielmi, from Findlay, was reappointed to the Development Financing Advisory Council for a term ending December 31, 2013. Mr. Guglielmi has a Bachelor of Arts degree from The Ohio State University. Mr. Guglielmi is the CEO & President of ACAP Ltd.
Kristi Tanner, from Pataskala, was appointed to the Development Financing Advisory Council for a term ending December 31, 2013, replacing Charles H. West, whose term will expire. Ms. Tanner has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morehead State University. Ms. Tanner is Brand Manager for the Ohio Business Development Coalition.
Jerome W. Jones, from Columbus, was appointed to the Development Financing Advisory Council for a term ending December 31, 2009, replacing Todd Ritterbusch, who resigned. Mr. Jones is the Senior Relationship Manager and Vice President for Key Bank.
The State Board of Education shall exercise under the acts of the general assembly supervision of the public education system in the state. Members' compensations range from $26.42 - $51.46.
Ann Womer Benjamin, from Aurora, was appointed to the State Board of Education for a term ending December 31, 2010, replacing Richard Baker, whose term expired. Ms. Benjamin has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Vanderbilt University and a Juris Doctor degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Ms. Benjamin is currently the Director of the Ohio Department of Insurance.
The Environmental Education Council shall advise and assist the Director of the Ohio EPA in the implementation and administration of the environmental education fund. It will also review and comment on all expenditures from the fund proposed by the Director. Members are compensated for their expenses only.
Frances Beasley, from Columbus, was reappointed to the Environmental Education Council for a term ending October 1, 2008. Ms. Beasley has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Science degree from The Ohio State University. Ms. Beasley is the Assistant Director for Environmental Policy and Planning for the City of Columbus - Department of Public Utilities.
Sally Banfield, from Mt. Perry, was reappointed to the Environmental Education Council for a term ending October 1, 2008. Ms. Banfield has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Master of Science degree in Elementary Math from Ohio University. Ms. Banfield is in the Library/Media Center at Sheridan Middle School and an Adjunct Instructor of Math Methods at Ohio University Zanesville.
Richard Shank, from Powell, was reappointed to the Environmental Education Council for a term ending October 1, 2008. Dr. Shank has a Bachelor of Science degree, a Master of Science degree and a Doctorate degree from The Ohio State University. Dr. Shank is the Executive Director of the Ohio Chapter of Nature Conservancy.
The Great Lakes Protection Fund Board is a regional trust fund established by the great lakes states to advance the principles, goals, and objectives of the great lakes toxic substances control agreement and the great lakes water quality agreement, as they may be revised and amended. Members are compensated for their expenses only.
Ed Hammitt, from Pemberville, was reappointed to the Great Lakes Protection Fund Board for a term ending October 11, 2007. Mr. Hammitt is a graduate of The Ohio State University. Mr. Hammitt is the Executive Director of the Ohio Lake Erie Commission.
Roy Ray, from Akron, was reappointed to the Great Lakes Protection Fund Board for a term ending October 11, 2008. Mr. Ray is a graduate of the University of Akron. Mr. Ray is the Vice President for Business and Finance for the University of Akron.
The Manufactured Homes Commission shall regulate and license manufactured housing in Ohio. Members are compensated for their expenses only.
James Demitrus, from Streetsboro, was reappointed to the Manufactured Homes Commission for a term ending December 31, 2010. Mr. Demitrus is retired from the General Motors Parma Plants and is Vice President of the Association of Manufactured Homes Owners in Ohio.
The Motor Vehicle Dealers Board shall implement and enforce rules and regulations necessary to conduct hearings on the issuance, suspension or revocation of motor vehicle dealer licenses. Additionally, the board shall hear appeals on, by order of the Registrar, refusal to issue licenses for dealers and/or salesmen. Members are compensated $30.00 for each day of actual service and expenses.
Henry Curtis, IV, from Cleveland Heights, was appointed to the Motor Vehicle Dealers Board for a term ending October 4, 2008, replacing John Fixari, who resigned. Mr. Curtis has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Hampton University and a Master of Divinity degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary. Mr. Curtis is the Senior Pastor at the Cory United Methodist Church.
The Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission advises the Attorney General on the standards and curriculum of police schools for all levels of government. It can recommend requirements on schools, instructors, training and other areas concerning the training of police officers. Members are compensated for their expenses only.
Ronald G. Ferrell, from Mason, was appointed to the Ohio Peace Officer Training
Commission for a term ending September 9, 2009, replacing Arthur M. Scott, who
resigned. Chief Ferrell has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of
Cincinnati, a Master of Science degree from the University of Cincinnati and
a Doctorate degree from The Ohio State University. Chief Ferrell is the Chief
of Police for the City of Mason.
The Public Schools Health Care Advisory Committee shall make recommendations
to the School Employees Health Care Board related to the board's accomplishment
of board duties. Members are not compensated.
Kelly McGivern, from Hilliard, was appointed to the Public Schools Health Care Advisory Committee for a term ending July 31, 2007, replacing John Martie, who resigned. Ms. McGivern has a Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University. Ms. McGivern is the President and CEO of the Ohio Association of Health Plans.
The Reclamation Commission shall promulgate regulations governing the administrative procedure to be followed in the administration of Ohio legislation designed to reclaim strip-mined land and shall hear appeals from orders of the Chief of the Division of Forestry and Reclamation. Members are compensated $150.00 per day plus expenses.
Ronnie Marquardt, from Rayland, was appointed to the Reclamation Commission for a term expiring June 28, 2011. Mr. Marquardt is a Dispatcher for the Ohio Valley Coal Company. He also serves as Chairman of the Safety Committee.
The Governor's Residence Advisory Commission shall provide for the preservation, restoration, acquisition and conservation of all decorations, objects of art, chandeliers, china, silver and other esthetic materials that have been acquired, donated, loaned or otherwise obtained by the State for the Governor's residence. Members are compensated for their expenses only.
Mark Heppner, from Akron, was reappointed to the Governor's Residence Advisory Commission for a term ending December 31, 2010. Mr. Heppner is the Vice President and Curator of the Museum Services Division of Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens.
Gary W. Meisner, from Cincinnati, was reappointed to the Governor's Residence Advisory Commission for a term ending December 31, 2010. Mr. Meisner has a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University. Mr. Meisner is a Landscape Designer with Meisner & Associates.
Robert D. Hollister, from New Richmond, was appointed to the Governor's Residence Advisory Commission for a term ending December 31, 2010, replacing Barbara B. Lach, whose term expired. Mr. Hollister has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Cincinnati. Mr. Hollister is a Landscape Designer with Ammon Landscape.
The Savings and Loan Associations and Savings Banks Board shall make recommendations to the superintendent of financial institutions and the deputy superintendent of savings and loan associations and savings banks on matter relating to the business of savings and loan associations and savings banks; pass upon or determine any matter the superintendent or deputy superintendent submits to the board for determination; submit to the Governor proposed amendments to the savings and loan associations and savings banks laws of this state; and consider and determine whether to confirm the annual schedule of assessments proposed by the superintendent of financial institutions. Members are compensated for their expenses only.
Jerry Caldwell, from New Albany, was appointed to the Savings and Loan Associations and Savings Banks Board for a term ending January 31, 2008, replacing Neal Hubbard, who resigned. Mr. Caldwell is a graduate of The Ohio State University and Capital University. Mr. Caldwell is the Chairman of Benchmark Bank.
The Self-Insuring Employers Evaluation Board shall review all complaints or allegations of misconduct against a self-insuring employer or questions as to whether a self-insuring employer continues to meet minimum standards. Members are compensated $18.98 per hour plus expenses.
Wesley Wells, from Dayton, was reappointed to the Self-Insuring Employers Evaluation Board for a term ending August 22, 2010. Mr. Wells is the Executive Director of the Dayton Springfield Sidney Miami Valley (DSSMV) AFL-CIO Regional Labor Council.
The Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council shall examine the existing federal and state laws which affect the production and consumption of Ohio Steel. The commission shall also examine problems currently faced by the steel industry in Ohio, including foreign competition, the economic climate and the future of Ohio's steel industry. Members are compensated for their expenses only.
Patrick Tatom, from Warren, was reappointed to the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council for a term ending September 17, 2009. Mr. Tatom is the President and CEO of WCI Steel, Inc.
David L. Caldwell, from Columbus, was reappointed to the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council for a term ending September 17, 2009. Mr. Caldwell is the Political & Legislative Coordinator for Ohio and Sub District Director for Area 3 of United Steelworkers of America.
Mark P. Morelli, from Wintersville, was reappointed to the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council for a term ending September 17, 2009. Mr. Morelli is Vice President of Operations for Wheeling Corrugated Company a division of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company.
David R. McCall, from Columbus, was reappointed to the Ohio Steel Industry
Advisory Council for a term ending September 17, 2009. Mr. McCall is Director
of District 1 of United Steelworkers of America.
Alan H. McCoy, from Middletown, was reappointed to the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory
Council for a term ending September 17, 2009. Mr. McCoy is Vice President of
Public Affairs for AK Steel Corporation.
Roger Lindgren, from Youngstown, was reappointed to the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council for a term ending September 17, 2009. Mr. Lindgren is President and COO of V&M STAR.
Terry G. Fedor, for Chagrin Falls, was appointed to the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council for a term ending September 17, 2009, replacing Bill Brake, whose term expired. Mr. Fedor is the General Manager for Mittal Steel USA.
William Bartos, from Amherst, was appointed to the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council for a term ending September 17, 2009, replacing W. Paul Worstell, whose term expired. Mr. Bartos is a Manager with Lorain Tubular (a division of U.S. Steel).
Salvatore J. Miraglia, from North Canton, was appointed to the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council for a term ending September 17, 2009, replacing Tim Timken, whose term expired. Mr. Miraglia is President of the Steel Group of The Timken Company.
Dennis R. Wist, from Warren, was appointed to the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council for a term ending September 17, 2009, replacing Randy Lachowski, whose term expired. Mr. Wist is the President and COO of Thomas Steel Strip Corporation.
