TEXT OF PROCLAMATION

Whereas, those who attacked our country unprovoked on September 11th, 2001, have since attempted to silence our patriotism in an effort to thwart the international alliance against terrorism; and

Whereas, those affected by the attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania, in the United States and abroad, vow never to forget the shock and sorrow felt that day and everyday since; and

Whereas, it is our obligation as a united people to continuously remember those who perished on the day of the attacks and do so by maintaining and returning to our everyday lives; and

Whereas, in Ohio, we particularly recognize those from the Buckeye state who lost their lives in the September 11th tragedy and recognize numerous Ohioans who showed heroism at the multiple attack sites; and

Whereas, as a show of continued support to our leaders, Ohio schools, business and government entities, join with the rest of the world in remembering the tragedy by commemorating the three month anniversary of the events; and

Whereas, a burst of patriotic noise will be heard throughout the state of Ohio at approximately 8:46 a.m. and/or 9:38 a.m. ET., the times of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon respectively, so that patriotism continues to triumph over fear.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BOB TAFT, Governor of the State of Ohio, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, December 11, 2001, as Ohio Remembers September 11th throughout the State of Ohio and urge all citizens to commemorate this day with appropriate events remembering all those who gave their lives for our freedom.

IN TESTIMONY WHEROF, I HAVE HEREUNTO SUBSCRIBED MY NAME AND CAUSED THE GREAT SEAL OF THE STATE OF OHIO TO BE AFFIXED, AT COLUMBUS, THIS ELEVENTH DAY OF DECEMBER, TWO THOUSAND ONE.

Bob Taft,

Governor
