COLUMBUS (December 10, 2001) — Governor Bob Taft today issued a proclamation declaring December 11th as Ohio Remembers September 11th day throughout the state of Ohio, and urges all Ohioans to commemorate the day with a burst of patriotic noise at 8:46 a.m. and/or 9:38 a.m., in response to President George W. Bush’s initiative. “Because those who attacked us on September 11th, attempted to put fear in our hearts and to silence our patriotism, I wholeheartedly support the president’s initiative to not be silenced,” said Taft. “On December 11th, I urge all Ohioans to show their support and remembrance of September 11th by taking part in the president’s initiative, and to make some patriotic noise.” Lt. Governor Maureen O’Connor will host an event in the Statehouse Crypt at 8:46 a.m. for state employees and those members of the public who would like to take part in the commemoration. President George W. Bush will lead the worldwide initiative with the playing of the national anthem on December 11th at an event at 8:46 a.m. Similar events will also take place at the Pentagon, in New York and in Pennsylvania.
