GOVERNOR TAFT ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS

COLUMBUS (Dec. 13, 2001) — Governor Bob Taft today announced appointments to the Biomedical Research and Technology Transfer Commission, Great Lakes Protection Fund Board, Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs, State Board of Landscape Architect Examiners, Board of Trustees of the Martha Kinney Cooper Ohioana Library Association, Small Business Stationary Source Technical and Environmental Compliance Assistance Council, and Technology Action Board.

The Biomedical Research and Technology Transfer Commission makes strategic assessments of the types of state investments in biomedical research and biotechnology in this state that would be likely to create jobs and business opportunities and produce the most beneficial long-term improvements to the public health of Ohioans. Members are compensated for expenses only.

Joseph F. Thomas, Jr., from Dayton, was appointed to the Biomedical Research and Technology Transfer Commission for a term ending Aug. 17, 2005, replacing Robert A. Weisman, of Dayton, who resigned. Dr. Thomas is associate provost for research and dean of the school of graduate studies at Wright State University. He received his B.E. degree from Cornell University, his M.S. degree and Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois.

The Great Lakes Protection Fund Board oversees a regional trust fund established by the Great Lakes States to advance the principles, goals, and objectives of the Great Lakes toxic substances control agreement and the Great Lakes water quality agreement. Members are compensated for expenses only.

Jeffrey L. Busch, from Toledo, was reappointed to the Great Lakes Protection Fund Board for a term ending Oct. 11, 2003. Dr. Busch is executive director of the Ohio Lake Erie Commission. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Toledo, his M.S. degree from Cleveland State University, and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.

The Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs is an advocate for the Spanish-speaking people, by stimulating public awareness of the nature, magnitude and priorities of the problems of Spanish-speaking people, as well as securing appropriate recognition of the accomplishments and contributions of Spanish-speaking people. Members are compensated $18.98 per hour, plus expenses.

Donna M. Alvarado, from Columbus, was reappointed to the Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs for a term ending Oct. 7, 2004. Ms. Alvarado is founder and managing director of Aguila International. She received her B.A. degree and M.A. degree from The Ohio State University.

Maritza L. Perez, from Cleveland, was appointed to the Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs for a term ending Oct. 7, 2004, replacing Joseph Genaro, of Tallmadge, whose term expired. Ms. Perez is the multicultural planning coordinator for Cleveland State University. She received her B.S. degree from State University of New York, College at Old Westury, and her M.S. degree from Bank Street College of Education.

Richard Romero, from Lorain, was appointed to the Commission on Hispanic/Latino Affairs for a term ending Oct. 7, 2004, replacing Veronica Dahlberg, of Ashtabula, whose term expired. Mr. Romero is the career development center coordinator for Republic Technologies International/USWA Career Development Program. He received his B.A. degree from Bowling Green State University.

The State Board of Landscape Architect Examiners shall adopt, modify, and enforce rules governing the standards for education, experience, services, conduct and practice to be followed in the practice of the profession. Members are compensated $18.98 per hour, plus expenses.

Tim Alexander, from Mansfield, was reappointed to the State Board of Landscape Architect Examiners for a term ending Nov. 10, 2006. Mr. Alexander is an architect at Alexander-Seckel Architects AIA. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Cincinnati.

The Board of Trustees of the Martha Kinney Cooper Ohioana Library Association receives state funds as a non-profit organization engaged in public service activities by collecting, promoting, publicizing and making available to the public the cultural, literary, scientific, social and economic achievements of Ohioans. Members are not compensated.

Joan V. Schmutzler, from Berea, was reappointed to the Board of Trustees of the Martha Kinney Cooper Ohioana Library Association for a term ending Sept. 15, 2005. Ms. Schmutzler is a retired librarian. She received both her B.A. degree and M.S. degree from Case Western Reserve University.

The Small Business Stationary Source Technical and Environmental Compliance Assistance Council reviews the effectiveness, and makes periodic reports to the administrator, concerning the compliance of the small business stationary source technical and environmental compliance assistance program. Members are compensated for expenses only.

Jane Dailey, from Dublin, was reappointed to the Small Business Stationary Source Technical and Environmental Compliance Assistance Council for a term ending July 31, 2005. Ms. Dailey is practice leader and government and public relations partner for Hull & Associates, Inc. She received her B.S. degree from the University of Rio Grande, and her M.S. degree from Ohio University.

The Technology Action Board makes strategic investments in Ohio to stimulate economic development in high technology areas. Members are compensated for expenses only.

Frank Samuel, from Cleveland, was reappointed to the Technology Action Board for a term ending Sept. 17, 2003. Mr. Samuel is the Science and Technology Advisory for the Governor. He received his B.A. degree from Hiram College and his Ll.B. degree from Harvard Law School.

Mark A. Collar, from Cincinnati, was reappointed to the Technology Action Board for a term ending Sept. 17, 2003. Mr. Collar is president of Proctor & Gamble Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He received his Bachelors degree from Northern Illinois University.

William E. Kirwan, from Columbus, was reappointed to the Technology Action Board for a term ending Sept. 17, 2003. Dr. Kirwan is president of The Ohio State University. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Kentucky, and his M.A. degree and Ph.D. degree from Rutgers University.

Vincent J. Russo, from Dayton, was reappointed to the Technology Action Board for a term ending Sept. 17, 2003. Dr. Russo is the executive director of Aeronautical Systems Center, Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He received his B.E. degree from the University of Rochester, his M.E. degree from Air Force Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. degree from The Ohio State University.

Donald J. Campbell, from Cleveland, was reappointed to the Technology Action Board for a term ending Sept. 17, 2003. Mr. Campbell is director of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Lewis Research Center. He received his B.S. degree from Ohio Northern University and his M.S. degree from The Ohio State University.

David R. Scholl, from Athens, was reappointed to the Technology Action Board for a term ending Sept. 17, 2003. Dr. Scholl is president and chief executive officer of Diagnostic Hybrids, Inc. He received his Ph.D. degree from Ohio University.

Thomas E. Brady, from Toledo, was reappointed to the Technology Action Board for a term ending Sept. 17, 2003. Dr. Brady is president and chief executive officer of Plastic Technologies, Inc. He attended Dartmouth College and earned his Ph.D. degree from the University of Michigan.

Jeffrey M. Wilkins, from Columbus, was reappointed to the Technology Action Board for a term ending Sept. 17, 2003. Mr. Wilkins is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Metatec Corporation. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Arizona.

Carolyn Chisano, from Miamisburg, was reappointed to the Technology Action Board for a term ending Sept. 17, 2003. Ms. Chisano is president of Chisano Marketing Communications. She received her B.A. degree from The Ohio State University.

Julian A. Gravino, from Toledo, was appointed to the Technology Action Board for a term ending Sept. 17, 2003, replacing Stephen Gage, of Cleveland, whose term expired. Mr. Gravino is president and chief executive officer of EISC, Inc. He received his bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and his E.M.B.A. degree from Case Western Reserve University.

Thomas A. Waltermire, from Cleveland, was appointed to the Technology Action Board for a term ending Sept. 17, 2003, replacing Bill R. Sanford, of Mentor, whose term expired. Mr. Waltermire is chairman and chief executive officer of PolyOne Corporation. He received his B.S. degree from The Ohio State University and his M.B.A. degree from Harvard University.
