
COLUMBUS (December 14, 2001) — Governor Bob Taft has signed the following bills, which will be filed with the Secretary of State’s office: House Bill 10, sponsored by Representative Bill Hartnett (D-Mansfield), includes the Korean War Veterans Association among the organizations that may recommend persons to be appointed to a county Veterans Service Commission. The bill goes into effect 90 days upon the Governor’s signature and filing with the Secretary of State. Amended House Bill 125, sponsored by Representative Merle Grace Kearns (R-Springfield), designates April 6 of each year as “Tartan Day.” The bill goes into effect 90 days upon the Governor’s signature and filing with the Secretary of State. Senate Bill 16, sponsored by Senator James Carnes (R-St. Clairsville), designates the Blaine Hill Bridge in Belmont County the state's Bicentennial Bridge. The bill goes into effect 90 days upon the Governor’s signature and filing with the Secretary of State. Senate Bill 21, sponsored by Senator Greg DiDonato (R-Scio), designates a portion of state route number seven within Columbiana County as the "Melvin E. Newlin Memorial Highway." The bill goes into effect 90 days upon the Governor’s signature and filing with the Secretary of State. Substitute Senate Bill 27, sponsored by Senator Larry Mumper (R-Marion), requires a public or private entity that places a child who has been adjudicated a delinquent child for certain acts for adoption to inform the prospective adoptive parents about the child's background and, in certain circumstances, to conduct a psychological examination of the child. The bill goes into effect 90 days upon the Governor’s signature and filing with the Secretary of State. Substitute Senate Bill 83, sponsored by Senator James Carnes (R-St. Clairsville), revises the statutes governing the surface and in-stream mining of materials other than coal. The bill goes into effect 90 days upon the Governor’s signature and filing with the Secretary of State. Amended Substitute Senate Bill 117, sponsored by Senator Steve Austria (R-Beavercreek), establishes requirements for devices containing medical gases and requires the State Board of Pharmacy to establish a medical gases safety program. Amended House Bill 165, sponsored by Representative Amy Salerno, designates the month of April as “Ohio Child Abuse Awareness Month.” The bill goes into effect ninety 90 upon the Governor’s signature and filing with the Secretary of State.
