
COLUMBUS (Dec. 7, 2001) — Governor Bob Taft today announced appointments to the Counselor and Social Worker Board, State Board of Emergency Medical Services, Ohio Educational Telecommunications Network Commission, Board of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology, Welfare Oversight Council, Ohio Turnpike Commission, and the Owens State Community College Board of Trustees. The Counselor and Social Worker Board oversees the grading of examinations of individuals applying to be a professional counselor, social worker or independent social worker and determines if an applicant is qualified for practice. Members are compensated $18.98 per hour, plus expenses. Joseph B. Williams, from Junction City, was appointed to the Counselor and Social Worker Board for a term ending Oct. 10, 2004, replacing Chester Partyka, of Independence, whose term expired. Mr. Williams is the owner and operator of New Lexington Convenience Store. The State Board of Emergency Medical Services prepares a plan for the statewide regulation of emergency medical services during times of disaster. It will establish an emergency medical services grant program to improve the availability, accessibility and quality of EMS services within the state. Members are compensated for expenses only. Mark Burgess, from Ashland, was reappointed to the State Board of Emergency Medical Services for a term ending Nov. 12, 2004. Mr. Burgess is chief of Ashland Division of Fire. He received his B.S. degree. Amy P. Gaddis-Lynn, from Chardon, was reappointed to the State Board of Emergency Medical Services for a term ending Nov. 12, 2004. Ms. Gaddis-Lynn is a firefighter/paramedic/acting lieutenant for Munson Township Fire Dept. She received her B.S. degree from Edinboro University. David B. Fiffick, from Youngstown, was reappointed to the State Board of Emergency Medical Services for a term ending Nov. 12, 2004. Mr. Fiffick is the general manager for Clemente-McKay Ambulance, Inc. He completed Paramedic Training at Aultman Hospital and received a B.S. and B.A. degree from Youngstown State University. Kathryn Jo Haley, from Columbus, was reappointed to the State Board of Emergency Medical Services for a term ending Nov. 12, 2004. Mrs. Haley is a Trauma Program Manager at Children’s Hospital. She received her B.S. degree from Capital University. William M. Rogers, III, from Lebanon, was appointed to the State Board of Emergency Medical Services for a term ending Nov. 12, 2004, replacing James Augustine, of Dayton, whose term expired. Mr. Rogers is medical director of Springdale Fire Department EMS. He received his B.A. degree from Pomona College, and his M.D. degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. James E. Holcomb, from Pickerington, was appointed to the State Board of Emergency Medical Services for a term ending Nov. 12, 2004, replacing Merle Stewart, of East Palestine, whose term expired. Mr. Holcomb is a retired schoolteacher and a volunteer firefighter/EMT. He received his B.S. degree from Bluffton College and his M.Ed. degree from Kent State University. The Ohio Educational Telecommunications Network Commission’s mission is to foster the growth and development of public broadcasting in Ohio and to provide all Ohioans with access to the services offered by public stations. Members are compensated for expenses only. Stephanie Skylar, from Lima, was reappointed to the Ohio Educational Telecommunications Network Commission for a term ending Nov. 8, 2005. Mrs. Skylar owns and operates WCIT-AM and WLSR-FM for the Allen Broadcasting Company. She received her B.A. degree from Newcomb College of Tulane University. William M. Kasch, from Dayton, was reappointed to the Ohio Educational Telecommunications Network Commission for a term ending Nov. 8, 2005. Mr. Kasch is currently the owner and president of Everybody’s Inc. He received his B.S. degree from Ohio State University. The Board of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology shall adopt rules to insure ethical standards of practice by speech pathologists and audiologists licensed pursuant to this Chapter. The Board shall determine the nature and scope of examinations and minimum scores to be administered to applicants for licensure pursuant to this Chapter. Members are compensated $19.55 per hour, plus expenses. Ann Shotwell, from Cleveland, was appointed to the Board of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology for a term ending Sept. 26, 2004, replacing J. Paul Good, of North Lima, whose term expired. Mrs. Shotwell is the president and owner of Shotwell, Inc. She attended Cuyahoga Community College. The Welfare Oversight Council shall oversee the Ohio Works First program and submit recommendations to the general assembly for any changes in law that the council considers necessary or appropriate. Members are compensated expenses only. Judith Tieman Bird, of Columbus, was reappointed to the Welfare Oversight Council for a term ending July 14, 2002. Mrs. Bird is currently the director of public policy for Ohio United Way. She received her B.A. degree from Capital University and her M.A. degree from Northwestern University. Lisa Hamler-Podolski, of Reynoldsburg, was reappointed to the Welfare Oversight Council for a term ending July 14, 2002. Mrs. Hamler-Podolski is the director of Ohio Food Policy & Anti-Poverty Action Center and the legislative and government relations liaison for Ohio Association of Second Harvest Foodbanks. She attended South Oklahoma Junior College. The Ohio Turnpike Commission is empowered to acquire land, plan, construct, and maintain turnpikes in Ohio, to be financed through the sale of revenue bonds. Members are compensated $5,000.00 per year plus expenses. William W. Wilkins, of Pataskala, was appointed to the Ohio Turnpike Commission for a term ending June 30, 2005, replacing Ruth Ann Leever, of Toledo, who resigned. Mr. Wilkins is the CEO for Ohio Health. He graduated from Ohio State University and attended the University of Tennessee. The Owens State Community College Board of Trustees appoints administrative officers, faculty and staff necessary to operate the college. The Board does all things necessary to properly operate and maintain the college. Members are compensated expenses only. James S. Kovac, of Findlay, was appointed to the Owens State Community College Board of Trustees for a term ending Sept. 22, 2004, replacing Wendell F. Fryer, who resigned. Mr. Kovac is the vice president of manufacturing for Cooper Tire & Rubber Company. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Akron and his M.B.A. degree from Bowling Green State University.
