
GOVERNOR TAFT ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS
COLUMBUS (November 22, 2002) - Governor Bob Taft today announced appointments
to the
Ohio Aerospace and Defense Advisory Council, Ohio Cemetery Dispute Resolution
Commission, State Board of Cosmetology, State Board of Emergency Medical Services,
Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees, Ohio Humanities Council, Owens State
Community College Board of Trustees, State Board of Psychology, and Sinclair
Community College Board of Trustees.
The Ohio Aerospace and Defense Advisory Council conducts an examination of existing and proposed laws, rules and policies of this state or the United States that affect or may affect the growth and viability of the aerospace and defense industries. Members are compensated expenses only.
Darrell W. Friend, from Middletown, was reappointed to the Ohio Aerospace and Defense Advisory Council for a term ending October 23, 2005. Mr. Friend is chairman of the Aircraft Engine Lodge 912 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.
Daniel L. Curran, from Dayton, was appointed to the Ohio Aerospace and Defense Advisory Council for a term ending October 23, 2005, replacing Raymond L. Fitz, of Dayton, whose term expired. Dr. Curran is president of the University of Dayton. He received his B.A. degree from Saint Joseph University, his M.A. degree from Temple University and his Ph.D. degree from the University of Delaware.
Kathryn D. Sullivan, from Columbus, was appointed Chairperson to the Ohio Aerospace and Defense Advisory Council for a term ending October 23, 2003. Dr. Sullivan is president and CEO of COSI, the Center for Science and Industry. She received her B.S. degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz and her Ph.D. degree from Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia.
The Ohio Cemetery Dispute Resolution Commission investigates and conducts hearings
on complaints relating to cemeteries. Members are compensated expenses only.
Tawana Keels Simons, from Cincinnati, was reappointed to the Ohio Cemetery Dispute
Resolution Commission for a term ending July 2, 2006. Ms. Simons is president
of AdTech U.S.A., Inc. She received her B.S. degree from Indiana University.
Avanelle B. Oberlin, from Marysville, was appointed to the Ohio Cemetery Dispute Resolution Commission for a term ending July 2, 2006, replacing Lolita Guthrie, of Bowling Green, whose term expired. Ms. Oberlin is a former Marysville City Councilwoman and retired school teacher. She received her B.A. degree from Wittenberg University and her M.S. degree from The Ohio State University.
The State Board of Cosmetology examines applicants for licensure, strives to ensure the better education of practitioners, and establishes rules regulating the proper conduct and sanitation of cosmetological establishments and schools; as well as conduct examinations, grant permits and certificates, and enforce rules and regulations adopted by the board. Members are compensated $19.55 per hour, plus expenses.
James M. Rogers, from Columbus, was reappointed to the State Board of Cosmetology for a term ending October 31, 2007. Mr. Rogers is owner of seven cosmetology schools and one barber school. He graduated from Nationwide Beauty Academy and Bruno Academy of Advance Hair Design.
Donna Froelich, from North Canton, was reappointed to the State Board of Cosmetology for a term ending October 31, 2007. Ms. Froelich is the owner of seven Great Clips, Inc. salons. She attended the University of Toledo and Kent State University.
Marilyn J. Huheey, from Columbus, was reappointed to the State Board of Cosmetology for a term ending October 31, 2007. Dr. Huheey an ophthalmologist in private practice. She received her B.S. degree from Ohio University, her M.S. degree from the University of Oklahoma, her M.D. degree from the University of Kentucky.
The State Board of Emergency Medical Services prepare a plan for the statewide regulation of emergency medical services during time of disaster. Members are compensated expenses only.
William Cotton, from Worthington, was reappointed to the State Board of Emergency Medical Services for a term ending November 12, 2005. Dr. Cotton is a pediatrician at Westside Health Center and St. Marks Community Health Center. He received his B.A. degree from Case Western Reserve University, and his M.D. degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
Martin G. Mace, from Rocky River, was reappointed to the State Board of Emergency Medical Services for a term ending November 12, 2005. Mr. Mace is a firefighter/paramedic for the City of Bay Village Fire Department. He received his A.A. degree from Cuyahoga Community College.
Mark Mankins, from Reynoldsburg, was reappointed to the State Board of Emergency Medical Services for a term ending November 12, 2005. Mr. Mankins is captain and EMS coordinator for the City of Worthington Division of Fire. He is working on his associate degree at Hocking Technical College.
Charlene Mancuso, from Euclid, was reappointed to the State Board of Emergency Medical Services for a term ending November 12, 2005. Ms. Mancuso is director of critical care operations, division of trauma, burns, critical care and metro life flight at MetroHealth Medical Center. She received her B.S. degree and M.P.A. degree from Cleveland State University.
Darla J. Cooper, from Waverly, was appointed to the State Board of Emergency Medical Services for a term ending November 12, 2005, replacing Edward Close, of Beverly, whose term expired. Ms. Cooper is chief of Pike County's Pebble Township Squad 7. She received her A.S. degree and paramedic certificate from Shawnee State University.
The Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees shall establish and maintain a state museum; collect, for preservation and public display, historical documents, books, machinery and other objects deemed to be of historical significance. Members are not compensated.
Richard Sisson, from Columbus, was reappointed to the Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees for a term ending September 13, 2005. Dr. Sisson is former provost and interim president of The Ohio State University. He received his B.A. degree and M.A. degree from The Ohio State University, and his Ph.D. degree form the University of California.
David B. Baker, from Marietta, was appointed to the Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees for a term ending September 13, 2005, replacing John Lee, of Columbus, whose term expired. Mr. Baker is president, investment and insurance services, for Peoples Bank. He received his B.A. degree from Johns Hopkins University and his M.B.A. degree from Ohio University.
Elaine H. Hairston, from Pataskala, was appointed to the Ohio Historical Society
Board of Trustees for a term ending September 13, 2005, replacing Marilyn Wendler,
of Maumee, whose term expired. Dr. Hairston is a consultant on higher education
presidential searches and public policy. She received her B.A. degree, M.A.
degree and Ph.D. degree from The Ohio State University.
The Ohio Humanities Council is an independent, statewide agency which receives
annual grants from the national endowment for the humanities; makes grants in
Ohio to non-profit organizations to hold public humanities programs; and shall
establish policy for the program and acts on proposals which are submitted for
funding. Members are compensated expenses only.
Ruth Fraling-McNeil, of Columbus, was reappointed to the Ohio Humanities Council for a term ending October 31, 2005. Ms. McNeil is caseworker and staff assistant for Congresswoman Deborah Pryce. She received her B.A. degree from Denison University and is a certified legal assistant from Capital University Law School.
Rachel R. Schneider, from Canton, was appointed to the Ohio Humanities Council for a term ending October 31, 2005, replacing Melody Sawyer Richardson, of Cincinnati, whose term expired. Dr. Schneider is a retired professor from the University of Akron. She received a B.A. degree from the College of Wooster, and a B.A. degree, M.A. degree and Ph.D. degree from the University of Akron.
The Owens State Community College Board of Trustees shall appoint the administrative officers, faculty and staff necessary to operate the college. Members are compensated for expenses only.
Carl R. Patterson, from Findlay, was reappointed to the Owens State Community College Board of Trustees for a term ending September 22, 2008. Mr. Patterson is retired from Whirlpool Corp. He received his B.S. degree from The Ohio State University and his M.B.A. degree from Michigan State University.
Jack T. Sculfort, from Perrysburg, was reappointed to the Owens State Community College Board of Trustees for a term ending September 22, 2008. Mr. Sculfort is senior vice president of Dillin Corporation. He received his B.S. degree from Technological Institute and his M.M.D. degree from Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Diana H. Talmage, from Toledo, was appointed to the Owens State Community College
Board of Trustees for a term ending September 22, 2008, replacing Patricia Wise,
of Toledo, whose term expired. Ms. Talmage is a retired school teacher. She
is very active in her community, serving on numerous boards, i.e. University
of Toledo Foundation Board, American Cancer Society, Toledo Hospital Auxiliary,
YWCA of Lucas County, to name a few. She received her B.S. degree from The Ohio
State University and her M.Ed. degree from The University of Toledo.
The State Board of Psychology shall license all persons who desire to engage
in the practice of psychology in Ohio. Members are compensated $18.98 per hour,
plus expenses.
Pamela Mattson, of Cincinnati, was appointed to the State Board of Psychology, as a patient advocate, for a term ending October 5, 2007. Ms. Mattson serves on the board of the Hamilton County Chapter of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI). She attended the University of Cincinnati and Christ Hospital School of Nursing.
Gay Lanctot, from Euclid, was appointed to the State Board of Psychology, as a patient advocate, for a term ending October 5, 2007. Ms. Lanctot is a board member of the Cleveland Association for Children with Learning Disabilities. She received her B.A. degree from Endicott College.
Sophia A. Augier, from Chagrin Falls, was appointed to the State Board of Psychology, as a patient advocate, for a term ending October 5, 2007. Ms. Augier is a member of the Chagrin Valley Women's League. She received her B.S. degree from Michigan State University
The Sinclair Community College Board of Trustees oversees the operations and maintenance of the college; and appoints the college's administrative officers, faculty and staff. Members are compensated expenses only.
Ethel Washington, from Dayton, was reappointed to the Sinclair Community College Board of Trustees for a term ending October 12, 2007. Ms. Washington is retired as manager of the Dayton West Customer Energy Center for Dayton Power and Light Company. She received her B.A. degree from Capital University.
William Krul, from Kettering, was reappointed to the Sinclair Community College Board of Trustees for a term ending October 12, 2007. Mr. Krul is CEO of Miller-Valentine Group. He received his B.A. degree from Wright State University.
