TAFT ELECTED VICE CHAIRMAN OF REPUBLICAN GOVERNORS ASSOCIATION
DANA POINT, CALIFORNIA (November 23, 2002) - Governor Bob Taft today was elected as Vice Chairman of the Republican Governors Association (RGA) at the 2002 RGA Annual Conference.
"I look forward to working with my colleagues in the RGA on important issues including homeland security, the economy, and education," said Taft. "I also anticipate working closely with the Bush Administration."
As vice chairman, Governor Taft's role will be to assist newly elected RGA chairman Bill Owens of Colorado in overseeing the RGA during 2003. The chairman and vice chairman provide key direction for the RGA's policy, political and fund-raising programs. Both Owens and Taft will serve one-year terms that expire in November 2003. Typically, the RGA vice chairman becomes chairman the following year, which means Taft is set-up to be the Chairman of the RGA during the presidential election in 2004.
