
GOVERNOR TAFT ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS
COLUMBUS (December 9, 2002) - Governor Bob Taft today announced appointments to the Ohio Advisory Council for the Aging, Board of Building Standards, Central Ohio Technical College Board of Trustees, Ohio Fair Plan Underwriting Association Board of Governors, Historical Boilers Licensing Board, State Lottery Commission, Motor Vehicle Dealers Board, Petroleum Underground Storage Tank Release Compensation Board, and Recycling and Litter Prevention Advisory Council.
The Ohio Advisory Council for the Aging serves in an advisory role for the Department of Aging and its director. Members are compensated $50.00 per meeting, not to exceed $2,000. per year, plus expenses.
Donald W. Davis, from Wheelersburg, was reappointed to the Ohio Advisory Council for the Aging for a term ending November 22, 2005. Mr. Davis is district manager for the Social Security Administration. He received his B.A. degree from Ohio University.
Jack L. Edwards, from Gahanna, was reappointed to the Ohio Advisory Council for the Aging for a term ending November 22, 2005. Mr. Edwards is executive director of the Central Ohio Council of Senior Citizens.
Phyllis A. Suhar, from Cambridge, was reappointed to the Ohio Advisory Council for the Aging for a term ending November 22, 2005. Ms. Suhar is retired vice president of patient care from Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center. She received her R.N. degree from Good Samaritan School of Nursing.
The Board of Building Standards formulates and adopts standards and regulations governing the erection, construction, repair, alteration and maintenance of all specified classes of buildings. Members are compensated $20.90 per hour, plus expenses.
Douglas C. Scholz, from Vandalia, was reappointed to the Board of Building Standards for a term ending October 13, 2006. Mr. Scholz is president of Unibilt Industries. He received his B.S. degree from Denison University.
David Smith, from Akron, was reappointed to the Board of Building Standards for a term ending October 13, 2006. Mr. Smith is a structural engineer consultant to the building industry. He received his B.E. degree from the University of Akron.
Richard Gale Johnson, from Toledo, was reappointed to the Board of Building Standards for a term ending October 13, 2006. Mr. Johnson is a mechanical engineer for JDRM Engineering, Inc. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Toledo.
The Central Ohio Technical College Board of Trustees has the power to build, own and operate a technical college within a designated district, shall set tuition and fees of the college, and shall do all necessary to ensure the successful operation of the college. Members are compensated for expenses only.
Valerie R. Bailey, from Newark, was appointed to the Central Ohio Technical College Board of Trustees for a term ending September 30, 2005, replacing Michael Menzer, of Granville, whose term expired. Ms. Bailey is an education consultant. She received her B.S. degree from Kent State and her M.Ed.degree from Ohio University.
The Ohio Fair Plan Underwriting Association Board of Governors shall provide for economical, fair and non-discriminatory administration of a program for the equitable appointment of the basic property insurance, which may be afforded in urban areas, to applicants whose property is insurable in accordance with the underwriting standards, but are unable to obtain insurance through normal channels. Members are not compensated.
Charles E. Call, from Akron, was reappointed to the Ohio Fair Plan Underwriting Association Board of Governors for a term ending September 18, 2004. Mr. Call is a retired chief of the Division of Reclamation, Ohio Department of Natural Resources.
Jane F. Orosz, from Powell, was reappointed to the Ohio Fair Plan Underwriting Association Board of Governors for a term ending September 18, 2004. Dr. Orosz is a retired assistant professor of the University of Akron.
Michael L. Thomas, from Gahanna, was reappointed to the Ohio Fair Plan Underwriting Association Board of Governors for a term ending September 18, 2004. Mr. Thomas is retired from the Columbus Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc.
The Historical Boilers Licensing Board is a newly created board, establishing
the licensure of historical boiler operators and the inspection of historical
boilers. Members are compensated for expenses only.
Dean Jagger, from Mt. Gilead, was appointed to the Historical Boilers Licensing
Board for a term ending October 23, 2005. He will represent the division of
boiler inspection for the Ohio Department of Commerce. Mr. Jagger is the boiler
section chief for the Ohio Department of Commerce. He received his Ohio certificate
of competency for inspection of steam boilers and was commissioned a boiler
and pressure vessel inspector.
Bruce E. Babcock, from Amanda, was appointed to the Historical Boilers Licensing Board for a term ending October 23, 2006. He will represent independent mechanical engineers, not involved in selling or inspecting historical boilers. Dr. Babcock is a retired mechanical engineer. He received his B.S. degree from Western Michigan University, his M.B.A. degree from Ashland University and his Ph.D. degree from The Union Institute.
Chuck Jackson, from Newark, was appointed to the Historical Boilers Licensing Board for a term ending October 23, 2007. He will represent active members of an association that represents managers of fairs or festivals. Mr. Jackson is executive director of the City of Newark Bicentennial Commission. He is immediate past president of the Ohio Festivals & Events Association.
The State Lottery Commission acts as an advisory body to the administration of the State Lottery. Members are compensated $5,000 per year, plus expenses.
Sandra K. Barber, from Wauseon, was reappointed to the State Lottery Commission for a term ending August 1, 2005. Mrs. Barber is currently the Fulton County Recorder. She attended Bowling Green State University.
Jerry Y. Seaman, from Columbus, was reappointed to the State Lottery Commission for a term ending August 1, 2005. Mr. Seaman is Executive Director of the Ohio Credentialing Board. He received his B.S. degree from Michigan State University.
Erskine E. Cade, from Cleveland, was appointed to the State Lottery Commission for a term ending August 1, 2005, replacing Michele A. Roberts, of Dayton, whose term expired. Mr. Cade is senior vice president and director of government relations for KeyCorp. He received his B.A. degree from Case Western Reserve University.
The Motor Vehicle Dealers Board shall implement and enforce rules and regulations
necessary to conduct hearings on the issuance, suspension or revocation of motor
vehicle dealer's licenses. Members are compensated $30.00 for each day of actual
service and expenses.
Robert W. Boich, from Dublin, was appointed to the Motor Vehicle Dealers Board
for a term ending October 4, 2005, replacing Theodore Gray, of Columbus, whose
term expired. Mr. Boich is a consultant for RWB Consulting and for Strategic
Global Policy Consultants. He received his B.A. degree from the University of
Colorado and his J.D. degree from Ohio Northern University.
The Petroleum Underground Storage Tank Release Compensation Board may adopt, amend, and rescind such rules as are necessary to implement the petroleum underground storage tank linked deposit program. Members are compensated $18.98 per hour.
Cheryl A. Hilvert, from Montgomery, was appointed to the Petroleum Underground Storage Tank Release Compensation Board for a term ending July 11, 2003, replacing L. Craig Foltin, of Lorain, who resigned. Ms. Hilvert is city manager of the City of Montgomery. She received her B.A. degree and M.A. degree from Eastern Kentucky University.
The Recycling and Litter Prevention Advisory Council shall, with the approval of the director of natural resources, establish criteria by which to certify agencies of the state, municipal corporations, counties and townships as eligible to receive grants. Members are compensated for expenses only.
Richard Williams, from Oberlin, was reappointed to the Recycling and Litter Prevention Advisory Council for a term ending November 18, 2005. Mr. Williams is township trustee for New Russia, Ohio. He attended Fenn College Technical Institute.
Dan Weisenbach, from Columbus, was reappointed to the Recycling and Litter Prevention Advisory Council for a term ending November 18, 2005. Mr. Weisenbach is owner of Weisenbach Specialty Printing, Inc. He attended The Ohio State University.
Prabhat Krishnaswamy, from Columbus, was appointed to the Recycling and Litter Prevention Advisory Council for a term ending November 18, 2005, replacing Irene Probasco, of Columbus, whose term expired. Dr. Krishnaswamy is vice president of Engineering Mechanics Corporation of Columbus. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Washington.
Stephen J. Sargent, from Circleville, was appointed to the Recycling and Litter
Prevention Advisory Council for a term ending November 18, 2005, replacing Robert
Manning, of Dublin, whose term expired. Mr. Sargent is the general manager,
Recycling & Scrap Tire Division, for Rumpke Consolidated Companies. He received
his B.A. degree from Mt. Vernon Nazarene College.
Diane M. Shew, from Danville, was appointed to the Recycling and Litter Prevention
Advisory Council for a term ending November 18, 2005, replacing Bonnie Huffman,
of Wellston, whose term expired. Ms. Shew is principal at Waste Alternatives,
Inc. She received her B.S. degree from Akron University.
Susan J. Monahan, from Columbus, was appointed to the Recycling and Litter Prevention Advisory Council for a term ending November 18, 2005, replacing Charles Meyers, of Ashland, whose term expired. Ms. Monahan is a government affairs consultant/grass roots training. She received her B.S. degree and M.S. degree from Indiana University
