
GOVERNOR SIGNS BILLS
COLUMBUS (December 13, 2002) - Governor Bob Taft today signed the following
bills, which will be filed with the Secretary of State's office.
Amended Substitute Senate Bill 223, sponsored by state Senator Lynn Wachtmann
(R-Napoleon), defines "injury" for purposes of the Workers' Compensation
Law to include, for emergency workers, instances when their blood or other body
fluid comes in direct contact with the blood or other body fluid of another
person while working. The bill goes into effect 90 days upon the Governor's
signature and filing with the Secretary of State.
House Bill 424, sponsored by state Representative Tom Raga (R-Mason), grants the Director of Job and Family Services authority to seek injunctive relief to enjoin the operation of a facility that cares for children without a certificate and increases the penalty for violations. The bill goes into effect 90 days upon the Governor's signature and filing with the Secretary of State.
Substitute House Bill 509, sponsored by state Representative Ann Womer Benjamin (R-Aurora), allows a trust company, under certain circumstances, to purchase products or services through or from the trust company or an affiliate or from a syndicate or selling group that includes the trust company or an affiliate. The bill goes into effect 90 days upon the Governor's signature and filing with the Secretary of State.
Amended House Bill 514, sponsored by state Representative Bill Seitz (R-Cincinnati), expands the time within which lien rights of subcontractors and materials suppliers are preserved under the Mechanic's Lien Law when a timely notice of commencement is not filed by the owner of an improvement, and establishes new criteria for determining whether a notice, affidavit, or other document has been served as required under that law. The bill goes into effect 90 days upon the Governor's signature and filing with the Secretary of State.
Substitute House Bill 657, sponsored by state Representative Linda Reidelbach, (R-Columbus), revises the law governing child support enforcement and declares an emergency. The bill contains an emergency clause and goes into effect immediately upon the Governor's signature.
