TAFT ANNOUNCES $2.2 MILLION FEDERAL GRANT FOR OHIO JAILS

COLUMBUS (December 17, 2002) - Governor Bob Taft today announced that four Ohio counties will receive a portion of a $2.2 million grant for the construction or renovation of full-service jails. The funding was made available through the Federal Government's Violent Offender/Truth-In-Sentencing grant program and will be administered by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

"I'm pleased that these federal funds will help us in our efforts to maintain and provide safe and adequate jail facilities," Taft said.

The following counties will receive funds:

Belmont County $1,290,000
Cuyahoga County $ 270,000
Darke County $ 701,860
Stark County $ 27,000

Total $2,288,860
