GOVERNOR TAFT ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF CAROL N. DRAKE
TO THE STATE EMPLOYMENT RELATIONS BOARD

COLUMBUS (December 18, 2002) - Governor Bob Taft today announced an appointment to the State Employment Relations Board.

The State Employment Relations Board studies representation and negotiation problems in employment relations, recommends legislation, and studies employment conditions in the state. The board also organizes collective bargaining units, hears and determines charges of unfair labor practices, and oversees negotiations between public employers and public employees.

Carol Nolan Drake, of Columbus, was appointed to the State Employment Relations Board for a term beginning January 6, 2003 and ending October 6, 2008, replacing Sue Pohler, of Columbus, whose term expired.

Drake is currently an Assistant Director at the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, overseeing the work of the Communications Office, Office of the Legal Counsel, Office of Legislative Affairs, Employee Services, Finance Office, and Office of Quality.

She has had an extensive career in employment relations. She started her career in government as an assistant city attorney, labor section, for the City of Columbus. She then served as labor relations administrator and deputy director for the Department of Industrial Relations. After that she became the chief of human resources and superintendent, Division of Industrial Compliance, for the Department of Commerce.

Drake has served the current administration as deputy director of human resources for Governor Taft's Transition team; became acting superintendent for the Division of Real Estate and Professional Licensing in the Department of Commerce, served as project office manager for the Department of Human Services, and served as assistant director for the Management Improvement Commission

She received her B.A. degree from Ohio Wesleyan University and her J.D. degree from Ohio Northern University.
