TAFT ANNOUNCES $20,000 GRANT TO SENECA COUNTY/CITY OF TIFFIN
Funds to Increase Awareness of Equal Housing Opportunities
COLUMBUS (December 20, 2002) - Governor Bob Taft today announced that the Seneca County/City of Tiffin Fair Housing Consortium will receive a $20,000 grant to assist with fair housing efforts.
"Fair treatment in housing is vital to providing a high quality of life
for Ohioans,"
Taft said. "I'm pleased that Seneca County and the City of Tiffin will
use these funds to educate our citizens about fair housing practices and the
equal housing opportunities that are available to them."
The funds will be awarded through the New Horizons Fair Housing Assistance Program, administered by the Ohio Department of Development's (ODOD's) Office of Housing and Community Partnerships.
The Consortium will use the funds to develop and distribute fair housing educational and promotional materials, conduct fair housing training for landlords and tenants, educate potential homebuyers about abusive lending practices and advertise the consortium's fair housing toll-free number and Web site address through a multimedia advertising campaign.
The New Horizons Fair Housing Assistance Program, part of the Ohio Small Cities Community Development Block Grant Program, provides funds to local governments to affirmatively advance fair housing opportunities. Affirmative fair housing strategies are designed to address locally assessed needs and commitments, while advancing the state's fair housing goals.
