TAFT DEDICATES SOUTHERN OHIO VETERANS HOME

COLUMBUS (November 15, 2003) - Governor Bob Taft today dedicated the new Southern Ohio Veterans home in Georgetown. Taft saluted the work of Ohio's veterans and congratulated the Georgetown community for supporting Ohio's veterans.

"Our veterans and those who lost their lives defending freedom have made it possible for Americans everywhere to enjoy peace, opportunity and freedom," said Taft. "Now more than ever we appreciate how blessed we are to be Americans and we appreciate the sacrifices of our veterans."

Taft was joined by Representative Tom Niehaus (R-New Richmond), Senator Doug White (R-Manchester), and U.S. Representative Rob Portman (R-Ohio), along with other local dignitaries and officials with the Ohio Veterans Home.

A 168-bed nursing home, the facility is the first new construction of an Ohio Veterans Home since the Sandusky Ohio Soldiers and Sailors home was built in 1888. The new facility will provide state-of-the-art nursing home care for Ohio veterans, and will employ approximately 200 men and women in Brown County.
