TAFT ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS

COLUMBUS (December 5, 2003) - Governor Bob Taft today announced appointments to Ohio Athletic Commission, Central State University Board of Trustees, University of Cincinnati Board of Trustees, Columbus State Community College Board of Trustees, Cuyahoga Community College Board of Trustees, Emergency Response Commission, Ohio Geology Advisory Council, Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees, State Independent Living Council, and the Reclamation Commission.

The Ohio Athletic Commission administers and enforces the state's boxing law, and collects tax on the gross proceeds from ticket sales of all events regulated by the commission. Members are compensated $18.98 per hour, plus expenses.

John Konstantinos, from Kent, was reappointed to the Ohio Athletic Commission for a term ending September 3, 2006. Mr. Konstantinos is athletic director for Cleveland State University. He received his bachelor's degree from Kent State University.

David W. Troutman, from Akron, was appointed to the Ohio Athletic Commission for a term ending September 3, 2006, replacing Tom Huff, of Maple Heights, whose term expired. Mr. Troutman is a retired U.S. Marshall, North District of Ohio. He attended Miami University and graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

The Central State University Board of Trustees shall elect, fix the compensation of and remove the president and such other professors, teachers and other employees as may be deemed necessary by the board, and shall do all things necessary to ensure the university is properly maintained and operates on a successful and continuous basis. Members are compensated for expenses only.

Geoffrey H. Lewis, from Dayton, was appointed to the Central State University Board of Trustees (student) for a term ending June 30, 2005, replacing Torrez Watson, of Wilberforce, whose term expired. Mr. Lewis is currently a sophomore at Central State University, majoring in economics, and serves as Class President.

The University of Cincinnati Board of Trustees shall elect, fix the compensation of and remove the president and such other professors, teachers and other employees as may be deemed necessary by the board, and shall do all things necessary to ensure the university is properly maintained and operates on a successful and continuous basis. Members are compensated for expenses only.

James R. Masterson, from Cincinnati, was appointed to the University of Cincinnati Board of Trustees (student) for a term ending May 13, 2004, replacing David Plank, of Cincinnati, who resigned. Mr. Masterson is a junior at the University of Cincinnati, working on his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in the Department of political science. He is currently an adjunct instructor at the University of Cincinnati Department of Math and Applied Sciences. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Cincinnati.

The Columbus State Community College Board of Trustees has the power to build, own and operate a community college in their designated district; sets the tuition and fees of the college; and shall do all necessary to ensure the successful operation of the college. Members are compensated for expenses only.

Michael C. Keller, from Dublin, was appointed to the Columbus State Community College Board of Trustees for a term ending August 31, 2009, replacing Bradley Lewis, of Groveport, whose term expired. Mr. Keller is Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer for Nationwide. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Michigan.

The Cuyahoga Community College Board of Trustees shall appoint the administrative officers, faculty and staff necessary to operate the college, and shall do all things necessary to properly operate and maintain the college. Members are compensated for expenses only.

Rosalind Thompson, from Orange Village, was appointed to the Cuyahoga Community College Board of Trustees for a term ending October 12, 2008, replacing William Hulett, of Cleveland, whose term expired. Ms. Thompson is executive vice president of human resources for JoAnn Stores, Inc. She received her B.A. degree from Carroll College.

The Emergency Response Commission aims to improve statewide preparedness and response to chemical emergencies and promote public awareness of potential chemical hazards. Members are compensated for expenses only.

Jack R. Pounds, from Dublin, was appointed to the Emergency Response Commission for a term ending January 13, 2004, replacing Elise Spriggs, of London, who resigned. Mr. Pounds is president of Ohio Chemistry Technology Council. He received his B.A. degree from The Ohio State University.

The Ohio Geology Advisory Council shall demonstrate interest in Ohio geology and mineral resources and recommend ways that will enhance cooperation from governmental agencies. Members are compensated for expenses only.

Mark R. Boardman, from Oxford, was reappointed to the Ohio Geology Advisory Council for a term ending May 3, 2006. Dr. Boardman is a professor of Geology at Miami University. He received his A.B. degree from Princeton University, and his M.S. degree and Ph.D. degree from the University of North Carolina.

William M. Rike, from Galloway, was reappointed to the Ohio Geology Advisory Council for a term ending May 3, 2006. Mr. Rike is a consulting Geologist. He received his A.B. degree and M.S. degree from Miami University.

Mark R. Rowland, from Columbus, was appointed to the Ohio Geology Advisory Council for a term ending May 3, 2006, replacing C. Robert Lennertz, of Cincinnati, whose term expired. Mr. Rowland is director of the environmental division of Burgess & Niple. He received his B.S. degree from the University of Dayton and his M.S. degree from the University of Toledo.

The Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees shall establish and maintain a state museum; shall collect, for preservation and public display, historical documents, books, machinery, and other objects deemed to be of historical significance. Members are not compensated.

George Kulchytsky, from Parma, was reappointed to the Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees for a term ending September 13, 2006. Dr. Kulchytsky is a professor at Youngstown State University. He received his B.S. degree from Kent State University, his M.A. degree from John Carroll University and his Ph.D. degree from Georgetown University.

Nancy S. Dix, from Hebron, was reappointed to the Ohio Historical Society Board of Trustees for a term ending September 13, 2006. Ms. Dix is president of W.E. Shrider Co., and is a former State Representative. She received her B.A. degree from Drake University.

The State Independent Living Council helps individuals with disabilities increase their ability to live independently through improved transportation, housing, peer counseling, employment and education opportunities, and the promotion of self-advocacy for people with disabilities. Members are compensated for expenses only.

Sheldon Ray Jones, from Columbus, was reappointed to the State Independent Living Council for a term ending October 27, 2006. Mr. Jones is retired from the Rehabilitation Services Commission. He has a real estate license and an insurance license.

Linda L. Peters, from Sylvania, was appointed to the State Independent Living Council for a term ending October 27, 2006, replacing Debbie McCuin, of Yellow Springs, who resigned. Ms. Peters is the retired director of advocacy from The Ability Center of Greater Toledo. She received her B.E. degree from the University of Toledo, and received her RN diploma from the Independence Sanitarium Hospital School of Nursing.

Keni April Reisinger, from Warren, was appointed to the State Independent Living Council for a term ending October 27, 2006, replacing Michael Martin, of Columbus, whose term expired. Ms. Reisinger is executive director of Eye Deal Connection. She received her B.S. degree from Cedarville College.

The Reclamation Commission shall promulgate regulations governing the administrative procedure to be followed in the administration of Ohio legislation designed to reclaim strip-mined land and shall hear appeals from orders of the Chief of the Division of Forestry and Reclamation. Members are compensated $150.00 per day, plus expenses.

Debra Carey, from Wilmington, was appointed to the Reclamation Commission for a term ending June 28, 2008, replacing Earl Carlton, of Carrollton, whose term expired. Ms. Carey is co-owner/manager of Northland Court Ltd. She attended the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University.
