OHIO ARTISTS' ORNAMENTS PLACED ON GOVERNOR'S RESIDENCE TREE
First Lady Hope Taft Celebrates Ohio Artists With Treasures For The Tree

COLUMBUS (December 12, 2003) - Ohio's First Lady Hope Taft announced the winners of the Treasures for the Tree holiday ornament contest, created to showcase the works of Ohio artists and craftspeople. The winning ornaments will be added to the Governor's Residence permanent holiday decoration collection.

"The entries that were submitted this year were beautiful creations from very talented Ohioans," said Mrs. Taft. "The goal of Treasures for the Tree is to give others around the state a glimpse of the artistic talent that Ohio holds within its borders."

Five Arts Centers from regions across the state judged submissions from artists across Ohio and chose the 50 winning artists. The regional centers which judged the entries included The Dairy Barn Southeast Cultural Arts Center, Athens; Fitton Center for Creative Arts, Hamilton; Ohio Designer Craftsman, Columbus; The Art House, Cleveland; and The Arts Council of Lake Erie - West, Toledo.

Each Arts Center chose one overall top prize from its region and will present a $200 prize at a December 12th reception at the Governor's Residence. Five grand prize winners will be announced at the reception with the prize money coming from an Ohio Arts Council grant.
