TAFT ANNOUNCES FRIENDLY WAGER WITH KANSAS GOVERNOR IN ANTICIPATION OF BUCKEYES FIESTA BOWL VICTORY
COLUMBUS (December 23, 2003) - Governor Taft today announced that he has made a friendly wager with Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius as the Buckeyes square off against the Kansas State Wildcats in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. Governor Sebelius was born in Ohio and made Kansas her home 33 years ago. Both are confident in their teams.
In recognition of this holiday season, Governors Taft and Sebelius are challenging each other to serve meals at a local homeless shelter or soup kitchen. After OSU wins, Governor Sebelius will travel to Ohio and serve meals with Governor Taft. In the unlikely event that OSU should lose, Governor Taft would travel to Kansas to volunteer with Governor Sebelius.
"I look forward to welcoming Governor Sebelius home to Ohio after the Buckeyes continue their winning tradition at the Fiesta Bowl," said Governor Taft. "But most importantly, I am pleased that Governor Sebelius and I will have an opportunity to underscore the positive impact made by volunteering to help the less fortunate, especially during the holiday season."
Governor Sebelius says, "While this is an exciting time for both the fans and players of the Kansas State Wildcats and Ohio State Buckeyes, we need to remember during this holiday season that there are people who are struggling with more than just travel arrangements. I am confident KSU will bring home a victory and Governor Taft and I will roll up our sleeves to serve lunch."
The Wildcats and Buckeyes will play in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl on January 2, 2004 at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. This is the first meeting between the two teams.
