We’ve all seen it –
drivers racing by at unsafe speeds, weaving through traffic, passing
on the berm, tailgating, and creating dangerous situations on our
roadways. We know it’s happening throughout Ohio, and with
assistance from drivers like you, together, we can make a difference.
Speeds well in excess of the posted limit, unsafe lane changes,
and other types of reckless driving can be significant hazards
for any motorist. People who exhibit these driving behaviors are
dangerous individuals, who are making our roads hazardous and
impacting your safety. Last year, state troopers issued 131,691
citations for aggressive driving-related violations.
Through renewing our commitment towards concentrated enforcement
and public awareness, I believe we can significantly impact this
traffic safety problem on our area roads. The severity and danger
created by aggressive driving illustrates the importance of this
issue toward making Ohio roads safer.
What are we doing?
To address this alarming problem, enforcement by road officers
will in some instances be combined with the use of Patrol aircraft
to root out this dangerous element on our area roadways. Through
our efforts we are also looking to impact an emerging problem
of wrong way drivers.
Why are we doing this?
Simply, through focusing enforcement and education awareness
on the worst of the worst drivers we are looking to effect the
fact that nearly all of Ohio’s traffic fatalities are preventable.
Our goal is to prevent you, or a family member or friend, from
being involved in a serious crash by arresting dangerous drivers
before they cause a tragedy.
Is there anything you can do to help?
Yes. We need your assistance to make our area roads safer. It
is vitally important for the motoring public to work with us in
addressing this significant traffic safety concern. I hope you
can help us by reporting locations and times aggressive driving
is prevalent, either via the Ohio State Highway Patrol Web site,
www.statepatrol.ohio.gov, or by calling us at the Patrol Post
at 1-877-7-PATROL. The information will be forwarded to state
troopers to target those areas and times.
The fact of the matter is we can work together to significantly
impact the epidemic of aggressive driving, which in turn can make
our roads safer and improve your overall quality of life. Thank
you for supporting us for this important initiative – Let’s
work together against aggressive driving.
