COLUMBUS - Members of the 118th Basic Peace Officer Class received training certificates in a graduation ceremony held today at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Academy. The 22 class members will assume duties as peace officers for 15 Ohio agencies.

The 18-week basic course began in August. The course was developed by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Council and offers comprehensive instruction in more than 150 topics, including criminal law, community relations, physical training, and patrol car operation.

Officer Christopher M. Rieman, of the Dublin Division of Police, was selected class speaker by his fellow class members and addressed the assembly.

Class honors went to the following:

• Scholastic – Officer William D. Speakman, Springfield Police Department
• Firearms – Officer Nicholas J. Hastings, Dublin Division of Police
• Physical Training – Officer Sara L. Mosier, Mansfield Police Department
• Top Driver – Officer Jonathan R. Leonard, Westlake Police Department

Executive Director David E. Freel of the Ohio Ethics Commission was the featured speaker for the ceremony and addressed an audience of graduates, friends, relatives, and law enforcement officers. Lt. Colonel M.W. Finamore, Assistant Superintendent of the Patrol presented the certificates of training to the graduates.
