OLRS provides comments on ODE's revised draft evaluation and IEP forms

OLRS recently provided comments to the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) on the revised draft Evaluation Team Report (ETR) and Individualized Education Program (IEP) forms. OLRS cited numerous areas of concern with the forms and provided recommendations for each. Several of the concerns violated state or federal law. OLRS' recommendations would bring the forms into compliance with those laws. Additionally, many sections of the forms would be difficult for school district personnel and families to understand and OLRS' recommendations would help to clarify those areas.

The draft ETR and IEP forms are available for download from ODE's EdResourcesOhio Web site. The comment period ends on January 16. A public hearing on the two forms took place on January 6, 2009.

OLRS provides legal advocacy to students with disabilities and their parents in the special education system and has extensive experience with the use of special education forms and the laws that pertain to special education through representation of its clients.
